In the future mobile device will be more and more integrated into business models. There are two emerging fields in which the mobile device will play a significant role in the near future: business-toconsumer and business-to-employee relationships. In the former the mobile devices will be used to access and pay for content. In the latter they will be used to integrate employees, which are traveling much such as sales and maintenance people, into the current workflow of a modern enterprise. In both application fields security and privacy concerns are important. No service user is willing to use insecure communication to pay for services, and no enterprise is willing to allow access to its business data if there are no strict authentication and authorization means available. The key technology to tackle these issues is cryptography, but the limited resources of mobile devices do not allow exhaustive use of cipher algorithms. In order to remedy the shortcomings of mobile devices with respect to security features we will discuss means to shift workload from the mobile devices to well equipped infrastructure servers and home PCs during and before the service usage, respectively. In addition we will provide a short note on how hardware accelerator can be used to boost the processing power of the mobile devices with respect to cryptographic operations.
